Higher Grading Conformal Affine Toda Teory and (Generalized) Sine-Gordon/Massive Thirring Duality
Some properties of the higher grading integrable generalizations of the
conformal affine Toda systems are studied. The fields associated to the
non-zero grade generators are Dirac spinors. The effective action is written in
terms of the Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten (WZNW) action associated to an affine
Lie algebra, and an off-critical theory is obtained as the result of the
spontaneous breakdown of the conformal symmetry. Moreover, the off-critical
theory presents a remarkable equivalence between the Noether and topological
currents of the model. Related to the off-critical model we define a real and
local Lagrangian provided some reality conditions are imposed on the fields of
the model. This real action model is expected to describe the soliton sector of
the original model, and turns out to be the master action from which we uncover
the weak-strong phases described by (generalized) massive Thirring and
sine-Gordon type models, respectively. The case of any (untwisted) affine Lie
algebra furnished with the principal gradation is studied in some detail.
The example of is presented explicitly.Comment: 28 pages, JHEP styl
Effect of step-edge on spectral properties and planar stability of metallic bigraphene
Phonon and electron spectra of metallic bigraphene are analyzed in the presence of step-edge crystal imperfection.
Different geometries of step-edge are considered. The dynamic planar stability of the considered structure is
proved for temperatures above the ambient. The number of phonon states is shown to grow near the K-point of the
first Brillouin zone, compared to pristine graphene. It is found, that this type of defects causes substantially nonuniform
distribution of electron states and the pronounced increase in the number of states with energies close to
Fermi energy can be expected in electron spectrum of the graphene-based compounds. The performed calculations
are in good agreement with inelastic neutron, x-ray and Raman measurements
Magnetic properties of the Bi0.65La0.35Fe0.5Sc0.5O3 perovskite
Magnetic properties of polycrystalline multiferroic Bi0.65La0.35Fe0.5Sc0.5O3 synthesized under high-pressure (6 GPa) and high-temperature (1500 K) conditions were studied using a SQUID magnetometer technique. The temperature dependent static magnetic moment M was measured in both zero-field-cooled and field-cooled modes over the temperature range of 5-300 K in low magnetic field H = 0.02 kOe. The field dependent magnetization M(H) was measured in magnetic fields up to 50 kOe at different temperatures up to 230 K after zero-field cooling procedure. A long-range magnetic ordering of the antiferromagnetic type with a weak ferromagnetic contribution takes place below TN ≈ 220 K. Magnetic hysteresis loops taken below TN show a huge coercive field up to Hc ≈ 10 kOe, while the magnetic moment does not saturate up to 50 kOe. A strong effect of magnetic field on the magnetic properties of the compound has been found. Below TN ≈ 220 K the derivatives of the initial magnetization curves demonstrate the existence of a temperature-dependent anomaly in fields of H = 15÷25 kOe. The nature of the anomaly is unknown and requires additional study.publishe
Evidence of Color Coherence Effects in W+jets Events from ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV
We report the results of a study of color coherence effects in ppbar
collisions based on data collected by the D0 detector during the 1994-1995 run
of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, at a center of mass energy sqrt(s) = 1.8
TeV. Initial-to-final state color interference effects are studied by examining
particle distribution patterns in events with a W boson and at least one jet.
The data are compared to Monte Carlo simulations with different color coherence
implementations and to an analytic modified-leading-logarithm perturbative
calculation based on the local parton-hadron duality hypothesis.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures. Submitted to Physics Letters
In Vitro and in Vivo Inhibition of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis Phosphopantetheinyl Transferase PptT by Amidinoureas
A newly validated target for tuberculosis treatment is phosphopantetheinyl transferase, an essential enzyme that plays a critical role in the biosynthesis of cellular lipids and virulence factors in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The structure-activity relationships of a recently disclosed inhibitor, amidinourea (AU) 8918 (1), were explored, focusing on the biochemical potency, determination of whole-cell on-target activity for active compounds, and profiling of selective active congeners. These studies show that the AU moiety in AU 8918 is largely optimized and that potency enhancements are obtained in analogues containing a para-substituted aromatic ring. Preliminary data reveal that while some analogues, including 1, have demonstrated cardiotoxicity (e.g., changes in cardiomyocyte beat rate, amplitude, and peak width) and inhibit Cav1.2 and Nav1.5 ion channels (although not hERG channels), inhibition of the ion channels is largely diminished for some of the para-substituted analogues, such as 5k (p-benzamide) and 5n (p-phenylsulfonamide)
Search for electroweak production of single top quarks in collisions.
We present a search for electroweak production of single top quarks in the electron+jets and muon+jets decay channels. The measurements use ~90 pb^-1 of data from Run 1 of the Fermilab Tevatron collider, collected at 1.8 TeV with the DZero detector between 1992 and 1995. We use events that include a tagging muon, implying the presence of a b jet, to set an upper limit at the 95% confidence level on the cross section for the s-channel process ppbar->tb+X of 39 pb. The upper limit for the t-channel process ppbar->tqb+X is 58 pb. (arXiv
Low-temperature phase segregation in La₂/₃Ba₁/₃MnO₃: Manifestation of nonequilibrium thermodynamics
Thermodynamic characteristics of the perovskite-like compound La₂/₃Ba₁/₃MnO₃ exhibiting structural
phase transformation of the martensitic type with characteristic temperature Ts = 200 K have been studied in the
temperature range 2–340 K. Step-like hysteretic temperature behavior of the effective heat capacity has been revealed
at 150–250 K and attributed to the discrete kinetics and a latent heat of the martensitic transformation.
Magnetic subsystem was found exhibiting magnetic glass state below 220 K and temperature hysteresis of the
magnetic susceptibility brightly pronounced in the 40–100 K and 180–230 K regions. The Debye and Einstein
temperatures, Ѳ D = 230 K and Ѳ E = 500 K, respectively, derived from the experimental Debye–Waller factors for
La/Ba, Mn and O sublattices, have been used to refine contributions from the structural and magnetic transformations
to the heat capacity and to reveal thermodynamically nonequilibrium states
